The contractor is scheduled to pave the first lift of hot-mix asphalt (binder course) Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. After the binder course is paved, the contractor will work on parkway restoration and topsoil placement. The final lift of asphalt (surface course) is scheduled (weather permitting) for possibly Friday or early next week.

The contractor will be finishing the remaining driveways on the south side of Carousel, both sides of Barbary, and the west side of Briarford this week. Weather permitting the contractor will be on site Saturday at 8 AM. Residents will need to park on the street for 4 or 5 days while the concrete curb and gutter and driveways cure. Next week, the contractor is scheduled to prepare for the paving of the first lift of hot-mix asphalt (binder course).

The curb and gutter on the north side of Carousel is complete. The Contractor is scheduled to finish replacing driveway aprons by early next week on the north side of Carousel where the curb has been completed. Next week, the contractor is scheduled to work on the remaining curb and gutter (on the south side of Carousel, both sides of Barbary, and the west side of Briarford). Residents will need to park on the street for 4 or 5 days while the concrete curb and gutter cures in front of their driveways. The contractor will notify residents that need to have their vehicles moved out of their driveways prior to concrete work.

The contractor has completed the utility work for the project. The contractor is scheduled to place curb and gutter on Carousel (north side of road) this Friday, October 8, 2010 (weather permitting). Next week the contractor will work on driveway replacement (on the north side of Carousel) and continue fine grading the aggregate base course and prepare for curb and gutter installation on the south side of Carousel. Residents will need to park on the street for 4 or 5 days while the concrete curb and gutter cures in front of their driveways. The contractor will notify residents that need to have their vehicles moved out of their driveways prior to concrete work.

The contractor is scheduled to finish the sanitary service repairs/installations and water services next week. Pirtano Construction is scheduled to begin removing the existing asphalt pavement and curb, weather permitting, this Friday, September 17th. The pavement area to be removed will be from the west end of Carousel at Crestwood to east of Briarford. It is imperative that no vehicles be parked on the streets in this section between 7AM and 5 PM. The roads will still remain open to traffic; however, there will be short periods of time when the road or your driveway will be blocked while trucks are being loaded. Pirtano will insure that access to your driveway is possible by installing temporary stone ramps by the end of each day.

Each resident will be notified on the day of the work when the water will need to be shut down for a short amount of time. The contractor is scheduled to start pavement removal and curb and gutter removal late next week. The contractor will be utilizing aggregate to provide access to residential driveways at the end of each work day.

The water main installation is complete, filling and pressure testing has been done and the new main is being chlorinated and tested. Test results should be in Tuesday and then the contractor will begin water service installations to each home. On the day the contractor works on your service they will knock on the door to notify residents of the water shutoff. At the same time, the contractor is doing sewer repairs across the roads which necessitate road closures at that location.

Water main installation is nearing completion. Once everything is installed, the contractor will perform a pressure test. For the test, the main is filled with water and pressurized to 150 pounds per square inch (psi). To pass the pressure test, pressure must be held at 150 psi for 2 hours. Once the pressure test passes, the water main gets chlorinated. Once the chlorination tests pass, the contractor can begin on water services. Contractor is going to start on storm sewers while waiting for the water main testing.

STRIKE HAS BEEN RESOLVED, CONSTRUCTION RESUMES!

The strike was resolved this week and new contracts between the unions and contractors have been signed and are in effect. The contractor resumed work this week!

The contractor plans to grind the road over the water trench on Monday and begin watermain installation mid-next week.

Strike Continues

As of this morning, the strike continues. The Unions and the Contracting Companies are still in negotiations and have not yet reached an agreement. It is our understanding that the next scheduled meeting is set for Monday, July 19.

We continue to ask for your patience and understanding during this time. We are continuing to monitor each construction site so that they remain safe to the general public.

STRIKE NOTICE

Dear Resident:

Thank you for your ongoing patience during the Village construction project adjacent to your home. At this time, the Village has been notified that Chicagoland Construction Labor Unions are going on strike. The conflict is between the Contracting Companies and the Unions, not involving the Village.

Work has therefore been temporarily shut down on your street. We are insuring that all construction sites are safe to the general public and will continue to actively monitor each site.

If any issues arise, or if you should have any questions, please contact the Village Project Manager or the Capital Projects Department at (847) 998-9500.

As of today, we do not have any information on how long this strike could last. We will inform you when this issue is resolved and work will resume.

The contractor is not beginning any work this week due to the Holiday Weekend.

The contractor, PirTano Construction Company, plans to begin layout of the water main next week. They are going to take a grinding machine and grind the pavement right where the water main is going to be installed. By doing this, we will be leaving a large portion of the road intact during the water main installation. The contractor does not plan to do any digging until after July 4th.
